YOGA – which style?

Ashtanga yoga
Ashtanga yoga, with its powerful linking of postures and full rhythmic breathing, is a dynamic yoga system suitable for those who wish to develop strength and fitness with their yoga practice. The Primary Series of Ashtanga is a challenging set of postures that are practised in the same sequence each session. The use of ‘ujjayi’ or ‘victorious breath’ in combination with the ‘asana’ (yoga poses) sets a rhythm to the practice and enhances its meditative nature. Deep internal heat purifies the body on a cellular level while enhanced levels of concentration relax the mind. Ashtanga yoga is the most athletic and physically demanding form of yoga.

Vinyasa flow yoga
‘Vinyasa’ means synchronizing the breath with a flowing sequence of postures. Vinyasa flow often includes components derived from ashtanga yoga such as sun salutations and breathing techniques, yet there are no predetermined sequences of the postures. The postures are creatively sequenced to develop internal awareness, build heat and explore energizing effects. The classes include music to enhance the flow and rhythm.

Hatha yoga
Hatha yoga is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some experience of yoga. There is a softer and slower rhythm to the practice. You will learn to cultivate awareness of the breath, improve your posture and alignment whilst developing core strength and flexibility. Meditation, pranayama (breath control) techniques and relaxation techniques can be included in your class.
